Mrs. Shuit K. (May/May Jie) Hom, age 88 of Cleveland, Ohio

passed away peacefully on February 8th, 2024.  Mrs. Hom was

born in Taishan, Guangdong, China, the daughter of the late

Wah Wai Yung and Lung Dai Gin.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hom

is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wah Poy, her son, Terry Hom

and a brother, Henry Yung. She was the loving mother of Ray (Kent Grogin) Hom

of Atlanta, Georgia and grandmother to Jonathan Hom and Corbin Hom of

Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the loving sister to Lisa Yung, Carol Chan, Jerry Yung,

Suzi (Jim) Jelinek and Ed (Jenny) Yung. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

In 1935, Shuit was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China as the second of 6 children.

At eight years old the family moved to Hong Kong. It was there she met and fell

in love with her husband, Wah Poh. They married in 1954 and immediately emigrated

to the US settling first in Cleveland and then New York City before making

Cleveland their permanent home. As immigrants, they lived a fulfilling life in

the land of opportunity, eventually opening the popular and successful

Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant located at Cedar and Brainard Rd in

Lyndhurst Ohio in the late 70's to the early 80's.

She was a devoted and accepting mother who sacrificed everything for

her two sons after the passing of her husband. She was the matriarch of the

family and adored her extended family. She especially loved being surrounded

by the children during family gatherings.

After her eventual retirement, she spent time always helping others in the community.

Whether it was being a translator, transporting friends around town, caring

for friends with health issues or assisting friends with their new business, she

was always willing and able to lend a hand. Those in the community would

simply know her as the sweet, energetic, beautiful, stylish, elegant, adventurous,

outgoing, charismatic, friendly, smart and fun loving May Jie!

In her free time, she would do her water aerobics every morning and always seek

out a mahjong game with friends. In addition, she loved to travel to new destinations

and try new cuisines. For many years, she spent her winter months in Singapore,

her home away from home. She would travel the region, exploring new countries and cuisines.

She discovered Buddhism later in life and became devoted to the

Buddhist teachings. This brought balance to her amazing life.

She will be missed by many in the Cleveland Chinese community.

We will miss her warm smile, sweet nature, generosity and energy.

She will now rest in peace knowing that she will be joined again with

her beloved husband and son in heaven.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 20th 3-7 PM AND WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 21ST,

10:00 AM UNTIL TIME OF SERVICE AT 11:00 AM. Interment West Park

Cemetery.
