Obituary

Zambia Zinovia Marangos (nee Mavrakis), the beloved wife

of Mihail Marangos (deceased) passed away suddenly on

October 24, 2023.  She was the loving mother of Maria Marangos

and Donna (Michael) Delis & grandmother to Jacob (Megan) Delis

and Emily Delis. She was the daughter of Emmanuel and Despina

Mavrakis and sister to ...John (Eleftheria), Nikos (Melipomeni),

Epaminondas, Kanakis(Maria), Marika (Gregory), Vassilios

(Stella), Theodorakis(Maria)

In 1935, Zambia (aka Zozo) was born in Chania, Crete as the youngest

of 8 children.  She lived a life filled with many adventures, blessings

and challenges.  During World War 2, her family was subjected to

the Nazi occupation that besieged Greece.  The Nazis confined the

family to a small part of their home and used the residence as a

German command post. In her late 20's, she left Crete and moved to

Athens when she met and married the love of her life, Mihail.

Together, they raised two daughters before they immigrated to

Cleveland in 1973.  She sacrificed much to offer her children a

better life and the ability to follow the "American Dream".

She worked hard and operated her own seamstress business for many years.

Zozo was a long-standing member of Sts. Constantine and Helen

Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland Hts. where she was an

active member of Philoptochos.  She also blessed the community

baking for the annual Greek Festival for many years.

She enjoyed cooking classic Greek dishes, gardening and hosting

holidays where she upheld all Greek traditions. Later in life,

she and Mihail moved to Bradenton, Florida where she developed precious

friendships. In 2017, she relocated back to Cleveland, Ohio.

One of her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Jake and Emily

whom she adored and in turn they treasured their beloved Yiayia.

We will miss her sweet nature, loving hugs, generosity and her amazing food.
