Fred F. Milite, 92, of Cleveland, Ohio passed away
peacefully at Gardens of McGregor on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Born on September 2, 1932 as Ferdinando, Fred was the son
of the late Elia and Rosalina Mariano Milite. Fred was a
Korean War Era Veteran having served in the United States Army
during the years 1952-1954. He was stationed at Camp Darby
located in the Tuscan region of central Italy, situated between
the cities of Livorno and Pisa. Raised in Cleveland's Historic
Little Italy, Fred was a fixture and regular in the neighborhood
even when he lived outside of the neighborhood. When he lived
and visited Little Italy he felt great happiness, joy and passion.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an inspector for the
City of Cleveland. Fred loved his family, friends and his boxer, Dutchess.
He enjoyed traveling, opera, classical music, card playing, watching baseball
and Jeopardy and reading the newspaper.
Fred also loved horse racing and handicapping; and was known
to win handicapping contests at local racetracks. He had a
special talent for hitting exactas and trifectas; often catching some longshots.
Fred's love of Little Italy only grew and he returned there prior to his residence at Gardens of McGregor.
To Fred, family and friends were everything. His greatest joy was spending time in Little Italy where he
could be seen eating delicious Italian foods and pastries, enjoying a fine cigar, playing cards and always
smiling and laughing. He brought great joy to everyone he encountered and was always poised with kindness,
generosity, respect, thankfulness and gratefulness.
Surviving are his daughters Gina and Michaeline Milite, his brother Emilio Milite and his sister Sophia McVeigh,
all of Cleveland, Ohio; his dear friend and longtime companion, Jenny Milite of Wisconsin and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Vincenzo, Dante, Guglielmo "Bill", Armand, & Sisto Milite; and
sisters Raphaella "Ray" DiRocco and Eleanor B. Fabri.
Special Thanks to his dear friend, the late David J. Rossi, the U.S. Veterans Administration home health care team
and all of the staff at Gardens of McGregor who collectively took excellent care of Fred and treated him with the
utmost respect and dignity. You can take the man out of Little Italy but you cannot take Little Italy out of the man.
Fred will be sorely missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
There will be a graveside memorial service with military honors and interment at Lakeview Cemetery
on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 12 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to meet at the Mayfield Gate
and then proceed to Section 20 in the forefront of the James A. Garfield Monument.
