JEANNIE JOHNS Obituary

Jeannie K. Johns, age 82, died on January 11, 2020. She was born in Manchester, New Hampshire

to Lawrence and Barbara (Miller) Kimball and is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers

(Warren, Richard, and George), her husband, Ronald Johns, and her grandson, Laith Hudson.

As a child, Jeannie lived in New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts before her family

moved to Texas, where her father owned a flower shop in Marshall and then Kilgore. An astute student,

she finished high school at age 16 and went on to graduate from Lon Morris College in Tyler, TX before

attending Harvard University in Boston where She received her doctorate in Psychology. She worked for

30+ years in the field of Special Education in New York City, at Syracuse and Michigan Universities, and in

Washington, D.C. She also worked on assignment in Amman, Jordan and Bahrain.

In addition to her profession, Jeannie enjoyed cooking, taking care of her family, and coffee shop conversations

with her husband, Ron. She lived in many different places and always explored where she lived, getting to know

the people and the place. She had a gift for turning ordinary life into a wonderful story.

Fifteen years ago, Jeannie survived stage IV ovarian cancer but as a result of treatment, developed scleroderma,

a systemic autoimmune disease. She battled all of these health challenges with determination and grace and despite

her struggles, remained an incredibly giving person who spent her life helping others in every way she could.

She is greatly missed by her sons, Christopher and David, and her daughters, Karin (Scott) Hudson and Amy (Elliott) Callahan,

and her grandchildren: Phineas, Baxter, Miles, Max, and Cate and many other family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, January 25 at Holy Rosary Church, 12021 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland, OH 44106

followed by a lunch and memorial at 1pm in the lower level reception hall. Flowers may be sent to Holy Rosary Church or

donations may be made to scleroderma.org
